Information
San
Francisco-based artist Clint Taniguchi brings
a community-based project to Tokyo for the first time. Taniguchi,
through painting, sculpture and photography invokes different
ways of seeing how we relate to each other, the environment and
the self. This is achieved by doing solo, collaborative and community-based
art projects. His work has been characterized as "neo-naturalist,
multidisciplinary" in form and function.
eyesaw founder Julia Barnes presents the first
of two installations called SEE YOU at a new gallery space
in Naka-Ochiai, Shinjuku-Ku, beginning November 15th. Through
photography, sculpture and painting, Taniguchi brings a representation
of San Francisco's Mission District to this unique gallery
space; once a soba restaurant, now a private residence. Taniguchi
sees the community through the model of the web: "it is
an organizing principle that turns into one cohesive pattern.
"The second, OAHU (Hawaiian for gathering),
takes place at the CLOSET Gallery in Minami-Azabu beginning
November 28th, with an opening reception the same day. More
conceptual in nature, Taniguchi presents
his most recent series of sculpture-like paintings. He uses
organic shapes to create an installation of "living dots." Video
artist Mike Paunovich, also of San Francisco, will collaborate
with Taniguchi on the opening night
to create a live video installation, called "burst"
