Biography

Seiji Yonehara: b 1973; Osaka.

Seiji graduated from San Francisco’s Academy of Art College in 1996. He lived in San Francisco for several years where he developed his current style. Recent exhibitions have included Rock  'n Roll Bazaar (La Foret Museum).  His recent solo exhibition Sad Songs Make You Feel Good  (Nakaochiai Gallery) saw his disturbing and complex portrayal of human sexuality brought a light in a series of silkscreens. Seiji lives and works in Tokyo. VS Gallery in Copenhagen will hold his up-coming show in Spring 2007.

Kazumasa Noguchi:  b 1978; Takamatsu.

Kazumasa graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Art and Music in 2001. He has worked on numerous visual art and architectural projects in Tokyo such as Small Impact (Nakaochiai Gallery) and Art Cross a project where he combined his architectural, interior design and visual art skills by gutting a Tokyo Bay fishing boat and temporarily transforming it into a traditional Japanese style café. Kazumasa has collaborated on projects with musicians including Cornielus, Naotaro Moriyama and comedian Sakamoto-chan. Kazumasa`s has an upcoming show at Chanel (Ginza, Tokyo) and a solo exhibition at Nakaochiai Gallery in 2007.

DENSE:  Tokyo.

Tokyo-based artist Dense expresses his presence on the streets using materials such as acrylic paint, silkscreens, stencils and stickers.  His past exhibitions include: Tokyo Lights (FORET Gallery, Harajuku), Side by Side (LAFORET, Harajuku), Diesel Denim Gallery (Daikanyama), Skorch (New York City) and Cubospacio (Puerto Rico). This is the first time for Dense to show with Nakaochiai Gallery.

Becky Yee: b. 1969; Chinatown, New York City.

Becky a Tokyo-based fashion and commercial photographer, works for clients such as Maxium, Relax, Switch, and Nylon. She has shot portraits for Aerosmith, Lenny Kravitz, Nigo and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Becky was recently recognized in New York in the prestigious 2005 PDN Photo Annual 2005. Her previous exhibitions have included 'Back to the Streets' (Nakaochiai Gallery) where she brought two generations of pedestrians together in Sugamo, Tokyo. Becky recently featured on a 'photographers special' for Britains BBC World. Her upcoming solo exhibition 'More than a Woman' opens at Nakaochiai Gallery in June 2007.

Benedetta Borrometi: b. 1971; Rome, Italy.

After Benedetta received her degree in law in Italy, she went to Central Saint Martins College of Art in London. She has worked as a food stylist and artist for almost 10 years. This year she collaborated and worked with Japanese fashion designer, Tsumori Chisato. Benedetta has just returned from Europe working on a site-specific installation for the concept shop TAD in Milan. Her recent exhibitions include a solo show at AKA Gallery in Rome. She lives and works between Rome and Tokyo. This is her first exhibition in Tokyo.

Takaya Nagura: b. 1982; Tokyo.

Nagura graduated from Oda design school in Nakano in 2002. In 2005 she began hand-sewing works from kimonos to stuffed toys. She has recently developed a new series of soft sculptures, which will be shown in a special numbered edition at this exhibition. The upcoming group show at Nakaochiai Gallery marks the first time for Takayo to show her work formally.

Clint Taniguchi: b.1975; Oahu, Hawaii.

Clint holds a B.A from The University of Hawaii. He relocated to Tokyo in 2006, after contributing 5 years to the San Francisco’s arts community.  He co-founded and ran art space, Triple Base in the Mission District. He has exhibited at internationally renowned art institutions and has worked on numerous collaborative projects throughout the United States that promote community activism and self-growth. His recent exhibitions include Crust and Dirt’s Instant Drawing Machine (The Drawing Center, New York City) and The Zine Unbound: Kults, Werewolves and Sarcastic Hippies (Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco).
